Learning to Drive

Director

Written by Kirstein Freimann, starring Beck Farris and Paige Flottman

It’s their third date, and by the time Bridget and Leah arrive at Leah’s bedroom after a retrospective double feature of Fast and the Furious movies, the women’s separate, in-their-own-head nerves about making their first hook-up perfect begin to spiral out of control, like the engine of a car stuck in first gear. Will this budding couple take the wheel together and get this show back on the road, or will they crash and burn?

Dining Set

Writer

Directed by Jackson Bradshaw, starring Anastasia Novak and Ries Lundstrom

Jane, a free spirit, has brought her dining set, an old table and two old chairs, into the park to sell it. In doing so, she’s unfortunately put it right on top of nonfiction writer Clem’s meditation spot, which he needs, because he is wound up tight. Real tight. When Clem can’t get his daily zen going because Jane and her dining set are in the way, a battle of the wills ensues.

Both Learning to Drive and Dining Set presented by À La Carte Writers Workshop as a part of Taste: An Evening of Short Plays in Three Courses in the summer of 2025. Check out the poster, designed by Jackson Bradshaw, illustrated by Jaime Mejia:
